Synopsis
The leader of a student movement, distinguished by the black-rimmed glasses he always wore, disappears from campus and is found dead on a remote island on August 15, 1989. The students go to the island and conduct their own investigation, uncovering that the Korean Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA) is connected to his death, but they ultimately cannot determine who killed him or why. To ensure he wouldn't be forgotten, his friends buried his signature glasses in his grave. This suspicious death at such a young age profoundly shakes the lives of his six friends: Won-ok, Myung-cheol, Sung-hee, Won-geun, Yong-heon, and Kyung-rak. For over 30 years, these six individuals have been fighting against the state. As the political situation in Korea evolves, national commissions are established to reinvestigate past incidents, and some of the friends even work as investigators for these bodies. Others become researchers of state violence or attempt to commemorate their friend's death through art. However, despite their arduous struggle, investigating crimes committed by state agencies through these same state structures proves incredibly challenging. The truth remains elusive. One day, his glasses return from the grave. Now older themselves, some even wearing glasses of their own, the six friends must decide how to confront their perceived "failure."
